TWO went to pray - O rather say
One went to brag, but not to pray !
He told of all that he had done,
Of battles fought, of victories won ;
He told God of his great renown,
And thanked Him for the victor's crown.

The other lifted not his face,
But smote his breast and asked for grace ;
Forgiving much and much forgiven,
His soul was filled with peace from heaven ;
His chief delight to serve the Lord,
He clamored not for high reward.

The one upon God's altar trod -
The other found the altar's God !
